What this rover did
Spirit was a Mars rover active from 2004-2010. It landed on January 4th 2004, at 04:35 Space Event Time. It was one of the two rovers used in NASA's ongoing Mars exploration program. It landed three weeks before its rover twin, Opportunity. The rover had a plan to complete a 90 - sol mission. Sol, being a solar day on Mars. The rover went on to do much more then this. It went on to do 20 times more then NASA had planned. Spirit went on to cover 4.8 miles instead of the planned 0.4 miles. This allowed the rover to collect even more data then scientists had planned. The rover was a big help to the mission and allowed more datat to be found and collected
On May 1st 2009, Spirit was caught and stuck in soft soil. This ended the mission but the rover was still in communication for a year afterward.
Currently it is still down to this day
This is a timelapse of data collected by spirit.
